US-based academic paediatric acute care hospital system Children’s Hospital Colorado and the University of Colorado (CU) Anschutz Medical Campus have launched the Colorado Child Health Research Institute.

This partnership is set to streamline paediatric health research and enhance clinical care by uniting more than 500 experts, including physician scientists, nurse scientists, PhD scholars, and other investigators, in a campus-wide initiative.

The institute’s primary objective is to optimise administrative and operational processes, allowing researchers to concentrate on scientific advancements and hasten the application of their findings to benefit patients as well as their families.

Additionally, it grants access to a vast array of nearly 1,100 clinical research studies.

The institute fosters a multidisciplinary approach to child health research, pooling resources from Children’s Colorado along with six CU Anschutz Medical Campus health professional schools, including College of Nursing, School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, among others.

It provides a centralised hub for research activities, offering support in various key areas including strategy, research business services, operations, clinical research contracting, data science, research informatics, regulatory affairs, and education.

The institute’s comprehensive functions are designed to bolster research efforts across numerous specialties, impacting all facets of child health.

Notable achievements already include the establishment of an international brain tumour registry and pivotal cystic fibrosis clinical trials, which have led to new treatments extending the lives of patients.

Children’s Colorado CEO and president and the Cille B. and Ronald W. Williams Endowed executive leadership chair Jena Hausmann said: “Children’s Colorado and our partners on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus are in the top 10 National Institutes of Health-funded paediatric research institutions nationally.

“With more than 50 years of partnership and collaboration and the generosity of visionary donors who fund research, we can advance child health to an even greater level.

“Together, we train, nurture and challenge the next generation of child health researchers and leaders to advance treatments that could become the standard of care in the future. Research as part of our mission and culture allows us to treat every child we serve and transform paediatric medicine around the world.”
