Tampa General Hospital (TGH) in the US has announced the receipt of over $120m in charitable contributions aimed at transforming healthcare through innovation.

The significant funding boost, including a substantial donation from the Taneja Family Foundation, has paved the way for the groundbreaking of the Taneja Surgical, Neuroscience & Transplant Tower.

This new medical pavilion, located at the heart of Tampa Bay, is set to offer patients access to best providers, research therapies and the latest technologies.

The tower will be named Taneja, recognising the contribution of the Taneja Family Foundation to the TGH Foundation.

Scheduled for completion in 2027, the Taneja Surgical, Neuroscience & Transplant Tower will house the surgery, neuroscience and transplant service lines of Tampa General.

The facility will span over a plaza level and 12 floors, offering 144 patient beds, 32 operating units and increased capacity for intensive care unit (ICU).

Additionally, the tower will include areas dedicated to emergency response, education and training and sterile processing.

Two floors have been earmarked for future expansion, ensuring the facility can adapt to evolving medical needs.

The plans for the tower were first presented in December before the Tampa City Council, where they secured unanimous community leaders’ support.

The 565,000ft² building will be housed adjacent to the main campus of Tampa General on Davis Islands.

Tampa General Hospital president and CEO John Couris said: “Patients come to Tampa General for world-class care, and the addition of this new tower on our campus, thanks in part to the generosity of the Taneja family, enhances our ability to deliver the highest level of academic-based medicine.

“The Taneja family shares our vision that through innovation, we can transform health care and improve patient outcomes. The new Taneja Surgical, Neuroscience & Transplant Tower will be an intersection of academics, research and clinical care that will elevate how we are able to treat patients with complex conditions.”
