US-based landscape architecture firm HGOR in collaboration with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) has master-planned and designed the latter’s new campus at the north-eastern corner of North Druid Hills Road and I-85in Brookhaven, Georgia.
The new campus will spread over an area of 70-acres and is scheduled to be completed in 2025. Construction on the campus is likely to start in 2020.
The new facility will feature a replacement hospital, the Center for Advanced Pediatrics, support buildings and more than 20 acres of green-space.
Additionally, plans will include health care facilities with 446 beds in two patient towers, with an attached medical office building and a consolidated AFLAC Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, as announced in November last year.
HGOR principal Bob Hughes said: “Given the research and the hospital’s goal to serve children, we knew this design needed to incorporate nature as much as possible while also considering how the staff would be most efficient.
“After understanding the effects of the natural environment on the healing process, we also found that doctors work quicker and more efficiently moving vertically rather than down long hallways.

By GlobalData“To complement the research, our goal was to place the hospital in a landscape, not on a landscape to create a compact footprint which preserves 20-acres of the site as a park like campus.”
