Salt Lake City and Ogden are home to three and two of Utah’s ten largest general hospitals, respectively. The state’s remaining top five hospitals are located in Murray, Provo, St George, Layton and West Jordan.
Hospital Management has listed Utah’s ten largest hospitals based on numbers of beds as of last year, using GlobalData’s research.
1. University of Utah Hospital – 613 beds
The University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City is Utah’s largest hospital, with 613 inpatient beds. It is the flagship medical campus of University of Utah Health, the state’s only academic health system.
The multi-speciality acute care facility also serves as the primary teaching and research hospital for the University of Utah School of Medicine.
University of Utah Hospital is nationally ranked in three adult specialities, namely cancer care, ophthalmology and rehabilitation. It is also rated as high-performing in the adult psychiatry, pulmonology and lung surgery specialities, as well as procedures and conditions related to cardiology and heart surgery, kidney failure, stroke management, back surgery, and hip and knee replacement.
2. Intermountain Medical Centre – 504 beds
The Intermountain Medical Centre in Murray is the second largest hospital in Utah, with 504 licensed beds. It is the flagship hospital campus of Intermountain Healthcare, a non-profit health system that operates 24 hospitals in the state.

Also operated by Intermountain Healthcare is the Utah Valley Hospital, a 395-bed general medical and surgical facility in Provo, Utah County.
The full-service acute care hospital is designated as a Level II trauma centre and a stroke centre of excellence. It is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to heart and kidney failure, stroke management, back surgery, hip fracture and pneumonia.
Utah Valley Hospital also provides advanced neonatal care and delivers 4,400 babies each year.
4. McKay-Dee Hospital – 319 beds
The McKay-Dee Hospital is a 319-bed general medical and surgical facility located in Ogden, Weber County. Operated by Intermountain Healthcare, it is designated as a Level II trauma centre.
The multi-speciality acute care hospital is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to heart and kidney failure, maternity care, hip fracture, knee replacement, stroke management and pneumonia.
5. St Mark’s Hospital – 317 beds
The St Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City is a general acute care hospital with 317 licensed beds. It is operated by MountainStar Healthcare, a division of multi-state healthcare company HCA Healthcare.
The multi-speciality medical and surgical facility handles more than 80,000 outpatient visits and admits more than 15,000 patients each year. It also performs around 15,000 surgeries and delivers more than 3,500 babies annually.
6. St George Regional Hospital – 284 beds
The St George Regional Hospital is a general acute care hospital with 284 inpatient beds. It is run by Intermountain Healthcare and was previously known as the Dixie Regional Medical Centre.
The multi-speciality medical and surgical facility is recognised as a Level II trauma centre and rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to cardiology and heart surgery, colon cancer surgery, kidney failure, maternity care, back surgery, hip and knee replacement, stroke management, COPD and pneumonia.
7. LDS Hospital – 262 beds
The LDS Hospital is a 262-bed general medical and surgical facility located in downtown Salt Lake City. Run by Intermountain Healthcare, it is integrated with Intermountain’s Life Flight air ambulance and TeleHealth Hospital.
The multi-speciality acute care hospital is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to heart failure, uterine cancer surgery, pneumonia, hip fracture, and knee and hip replacement.
8. Ogden Regional Medical Centre – 239 beds
The Ogden Regional Medical Centre is a 239-bed general acute care hospital in Ogden, Weber County. It is operated by MountainStar Healthcare, a subsidiary of HCA Healthcare.
The multi-speciality medical and surgical facility is designated as a Level II trauma and primary stroke centre. The hospital handles more than 77,000 outpatient visits, performs around 10,000 surgeries and delivers more than 2,500 babies each year.
9. Davis Hospital and Medical Centre – 220 beds
The Davis Hospital and Medical Centre is a 220-bed general acute care community hospital in Layton, Utah. It is run by Steward Health Care, a physician-led private healthcare company that operates 39 community hospitals across nine US states and the country of Malta.
Davis Hospital and Medical Centre specialises in cancer, cardiovascular, orthopaedic, maternity and emergency care among other clinical areas. The full-service facility is designated as a Level II trauma and primary stroke centre and houses a Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with 16 beds.
10. Jordan Valley Medical Centre – 171 beds
The Jordan Valley Medical Centre in West Jordan, Utah, is a general medical and surgical facility with 171 inpatient beds.
The multi-speciality hospital is the second largest community hospital operated by Steward Health Care in Utah. It is designated as a Level III trauma centre and houses a Level III NICU.
Jordan Valley Medical Centre provides emergency, medical and surgical care across a wide range of specialities, including cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics and women’s health. The facility is rated as high-performing in adult procedures and conditions related to stroke management.
