Ground has been broken on a new satellite hospital in Kallangur in Queensland, Australia.

The new hospital is expected to provide more health services closer to residents of Pine Rivers.

The Kallangur Satellite Hospital will feature a Minor Injury and Illness Clinic to relieve pressure from busy emergency departments.

The satellite hospital will lessen travel times for patients who need to visit hospitals away.

The government’s Satellite Hospitals Program will deliver new facilities in Kallangur, Redlands, Eight Mile Plains, Caboolture, Ripley, Tugun and Bribie Island, and will support up to 773 construction jobs.

For the programme, Hutchinson Builders has been appointed as managing contractor to ensure all the seven projects are built by locals.

Pine Rivers member Nikki Boyd said: “Pine Rivers is a growing community with increasing demand for health services and this new satellite hospital will help meet this demand.”

The new state budget includes $23.6bn for health, an increase of 55% since 2015.

The government has allocated almost $10bn in capital funding over six years to develop new hospitals and extend existing ones.
