Boundary Trails Health Centre in Manitoba, Canada, is set to undergo a planned renovation and expansion that will see addition of new acute care inpatient beds and a larger and more modern space for patient care programmes.
Currently, the site is being prepared for the construction to begin.
The project entails an investment of at least $47.2m (C$64.4m), with $7.3m (C$10m) contribution coming from the Boundary Trails Health Foundation.
This project will see a new, two-storey community services building and a new, two-storey inpatient building being built next to the existing facility.
Following completion, the new community services building will accommodate several existing programmes that are currently undertaken elsewhere in the community or in acute care areas of the health centre, including public health, midwifery and a hospital pharmacy.
There are also plans to include a retail pharmacy and other complementary retail services.

By GlobalDataManitoba Health Minister Audrey Gordon said: “Manitoba is committed to strengthening the health-care system by providing rural communities more health services closer to home.
“Investing in the expansion and renovations at Boundary Trails Health Centre reflect the increasing importance the facility plays in our health-care system and supports the expansion of specialised services at the site which will reduce the need for many residents to travel frequently to Winnipeg for care.”
Renovation of the current health centre will commence once programmes are shifted into the newly constructed community services building, which in turn will offer larger spaces for several departments and programmes, such as surgery, cancer services, emergency, medical device reprocessing, ambulatory care and diagnostic services.
Substantive work on the new community services building at the health centre is anticipated to complete by the end of 2024.
Work on the inpatient expansion is expected to complete in 2025, with renovations to the existing space to finish in 2026.
