The Prime minister of Ireland Leo Varadkar has broken ground on Bon Secours Health System’s new hospital in Ballysimon, Limerick, Ireland.
The €190m Bon Secours hospital project is expected to largely expand the services provided to all the patients in the Mid-West.
Anticipated to open in 2025, it is expected to create around 250 new jobs.
The Limerick hospital is part of a larger €300m national investment by Bon Secours Health System in line with its 2025 Strategic Plan.
It is expected to serve over 50,000 patients every year through various services and technologically sophisticated treatment provided by the new amenities.
The new facility will feature 75 Inpatient beds, a four-bed special observation unit, a radiology department, four operating theatres, a pre-assessment unit, and minor op rooms.

By GlobalDataIn addition, the facility will have 20 endoscopy recovery bays and three procedure rooms, a 20-bay day surgical unit, a 10-bay medical assessment unit, and a dedicated ophthalmology unit.
This hospital is being constructed on an eco-friendly site with accessibility to public transportation, EV parking, and bike facilities.
Facilities will be outfitted with heat pump technology for heating and cooling, green roof technology, natural daylighting, and ventilation will also be used where necessary.
Bon Secours Health System Group chief executive Bill Maher said: “This new facility will transform day-care surgical and oncology treatments available in Limerick, provide new services such as general medicine, a new Cath lab and cardiology, and widen patient-centred services to a growing local population.
“It is the latest development in our €300m national investment strategy, with the Mid-West now set to further benefit from the high-quality healthcare and technologically advanced services that are the Bon Secours hallmark.”
