Rwanda has broken ground on the renovation and expansion project of Masaka Hospital, a facility funded by the Chinese Government.
The ceremony, which was presided over by Rwandan Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente and the Chinese ambassador for Rwanda Wang Xuekun was held in Masaka District Hospital in Kicukiro District, Kigali City.
As part of the project, the facility will be expanded to an area of 56,000m² with a total bed capacity of 837.
Upon project completion in July 2025, Masaka Hospital will have the capacity to accommodate up to 2,000 patients each day.
Wang Xuekun said: “This project marks a milestone of the highest infrastructure cooperation between our two countries.
“Fruitful cooperation in various fields has been enormously expanded between our two countries. Our political exchanges keep growing with good momentum. Economic and practical cooperation has achieved a lot with bigger projects ongoing and trading ties increasing.”

The press statement added that the hospital is expected to become the largest hospital and a leading teaching facility in Rwanda.
