Trinity Health System has held an official flag-raising ceremony for new flagpoles in front of Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio to mark the near-completion of its $75m hospital expansion.
As part of the ceremony, a US flag and an Ohio state flag was raised by members of the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad and hospital officials.
Commenced in 2019, the expansion project involves an area addition of 183,400ft² from the former entrance of the hospital via the heart centre to the emergency room located at the other end of the facility, reported The Weirton Daily Times.
While the city’s inspection process has been underway, workers have been involved in flooring, and other finishing touches including the installation of patient monitoring devices and other IT systems.
The renovation project also involves the construction of a surgical services hub with 16 new patient care beds and an intensive care unit on the third floor of the building.
In addition, the fourth and fifth floors will house 36 single-patient rooms. The expanded facility is expected to open for patients in June. Various works at the hospital were delayed by 18 months as a result of the pandemic.

By GlobalDataMatt Grimshaw, chief executive officer of Trinity Health System said: “We’ve had a lot of supply chain issues. Fortunately, most mechanical systems were purchased and prefabricated earlier or it would have been far worse.”
The addition has been designed by the Nashville architectural firm ESa and features a tower design modelled after the original Ohio Valley Hospital.
