US-based Sentara Healthcare is planning to construct a new acute care hospital in South Boston, Virginia with an investment of $70m.
To be designed by Kahler & Slate, the proposed hospital will replace the current Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital (SHRH).
The facility will feature a patient-centric design representing the trend toward preventive care, outpatient services and minimal hospital stays, the hospital said.
Sentara Healthcare Board of Directors member and SHRH Board of Directors chair Carol Thomas said: “This is an exciting time for Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital and the community. This new hospital will allow us to continue to offer quality health care locally for years to come.”
The new hospital is expected to be completed in the fiscal year 2025-26.
The hospital group noted that the new facility will primarily serve people living in the rural areas of the region.
