Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital in Texas broke ground on several projects associated with its $167m expansion that is currently under progress.
These associated projects include a third medical plaza, a parking garage and the expansion of the emergency centre and operating room.

During the ground-breaking ceremony, Memorial Hermann Katy CEO Jerry Ashworth also announced the opening of a 40-bed medical/surgical acute care unit this week.
With the opening of the medical/surgical acute care unit, the hospital’s total bed count will touch 254, which will further increase to almost 300 with the opening of the 40-bed immediate care unit (IMU) on the fifth floor of the East Tower.
The construction of the IMU is underway and is expected to open later this year.
Ashworth said: “Today we recognise many months of planning and countless hours of preparation that have gone into this expansion and celebrate the tremendous opportunity to continue to grow alongside our flourishing community.

The CEO further added: “As a result of this growth, we are also increasing our workforce and are actively filling a number of new positions here at the hospital.”
Following completion, more than 600 additional carparks will be added to the west side of the campus, while Medical Plaza III will increase clinical office space for doctors. The carpark and medical plaza will be completed in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
Phase I of the operation will see the emergency centre increase in size to 40,000ft² with added treatment rooms, including two trauma rooms, space for extra CT scanners, and more.
Furthermore, the project will add two operating rooms within the hospital, with space to add another four more in the future.
Phase II meanwhile will include renovations to the current emergency centre. The completion of both phases is expected to be at the end of 2025.
