Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH) has announced the arrangement of 30 beds for Covid patients in its mother and child health (MCH) ward at Mayaganj in the Indian state of Bihar, reported Times of India.
The move comes after the state reported rising Covid cases and the state health department issued an advisory.
JLNMCH associate professor in the department of medicine Dr Raj Kamal Choudhary said: “The symptoms are changing and we are alert.
“Symptoms are surfacing even in those cases where ‘Real Time Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction’ (RT-PCR) tests have been found negative. The number of RT-PCR and rapid antigen tests have also been increased.”
The 30-bed Covid facility has been arranged adjacent to the intensive care unit (ICU) in the hospital.
As part of the preparation, the hospital has issued a directive imposing strict Covid protocols including wearing of masks by hospital staff, patients and their attendants.
