All Indian Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) has opened its hospital in Guwahati, the capital of India’s north-eastern state of Assam, reported Press Trust of India.
This is the first AIIMS in north-east India.
The hospital was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The foundation stone for the hospital was laid in May 2017, and it has been constructed at a cost of Rs11.2bn ($140m).
Operating as a super-speciality hospital, AIIMS-Guwahati will serve the people of Assam and neighbouring north-eastern states, reported NDTV.
It has a total capacity of 750 beds, including 30 Ayush beds, and also comes with an intake capacity of 100 MBBS students annually.

It also features a separate facility to offer services under the Ayush programme, which stands for ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, unani, siddha and homeopathy medical systems practiced in India.
Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated three medical colleges at Nalbari, Nagaon and Kokrajhar.
The AIIMS is an autonomous institute of national importance operating under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Meanwhile, AIIMS-Delhi has issued an advisory to its staff to adhere to Covid-19- appropriate behaviour after some of its staff members tested positive.
In an advisory, the AIIMS noted that staff “must use reusable cloth face cover/surgical mask in the workplace. Ensure proper cleaning and frequent sanitation of the workplace, particularly of the frequently touched surfaces.”
