Oman is embarking on an ambitious project to construct 11 new hospitals in response to its expanding population, reported ArabianBusiness.

The Ministry of Health is leading this initiative to cater to the healthcare needs of both Omani citizens and residents.

Scheduled for completion between 2023 and 2025, the hospitals will be strategically located in different regions of the country.

Ministry of Health director general of projects and engineering affairs Jamal Salim Al Shanfari has provided details on the progress of various ongoing projects, including the Al Suwaiq Hospital and the Sultan Qaboos Hospital.

The 307-bed capacity Al Suwaiq Hospital in the North Al Batinah Governorate is underway and is scheduled for completion in 2024.

The Sultan Qaboos Hospital is being constructed in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate, and is expected to be completed in 2025.

It is also anticipated that the new 164-bed Khasab Hospital in the Musandam Governorate will be opened in 2024.

Al Shanfari added that existing health centres such as the Mad’ha Health Centre and the Thamrait Health Centre will be transformed into full-fledged hospitals.

The ministry is also finalising the designs and layouts for three new hospitals, namely the Samayil Hospital, Al Nama Hospital, and Al Falah Hospital.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the development of Mahout Hospital in Al Wusta Governorate. This hospital is scheduled to open in 2025.
