The Government of Queensland in Australia has granted A$1.17bn ($777m) in tenders to undertake two key hospital expansion projects in the state.
The expansions will be carried out in QEII Jubilee and Ipswich Hospital, which will add 312 extra beds and create 2,800 construction jobs in total.
Built Qld has secured the contract to develop the A$465m QEII Jubilee Hospital Expansion project, which will result in the installation of 112 new beds and the employment of 1,120 people during construction.
The project is expected to strengthen the hospital’s capacity for elective surgeries and offer additional health services in the south of Brisbane.
BESIX Watpac has received the contract for the A$710m Ipswich Hospital Stage 2 Expansion. The project will deliver 200 additional beds and create 1,700 construction jobs.
The expansion will also see the development of a new purpose-built acute clinical service building, a new emergency department, six new operating theatres, a satellite medical imaging service as well as a new Central Sterilisation Service Department.

By GlobalDataThe new contracts have brought the total number of hospital tenders awarded by the Palaszczuk Government so far this month to A$2.55bn, and include the delivery of 897 new hospital beds and support 5,304 construction jobs.
Earlier this month, the government awarded A$1.38bn in contracts for four hospital expansion projects that include Logan, Cairns, Mackay and Princess Alexandra hospitals.
Queensland Premier and Olympic and Paralympic Games Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said: “We’re investing an extra A$9.78bn under our Health and Hospitals Plan to deliver three new hospitals, 11 major hospital expansions, seven satellite hospitals, and 3,378 more beds for Queenslanders.
“That’s all part of our overall health budget of A$23.6bn to make sure Queenslanders get the health services they need closer to home and our frontline health workers have the tools they need to save lives.”
