The Bacolod City General Hospital in the Philippines has secured a further PHP250m ($4.46m) from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for building its second phase.

Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya stated that the DPWH-Western Visayas regional office will carry out a bidding process for the PHP250m project once the design is ready.

Gasataya made the comment after visiting the location in Barangay Vista Alegre.

Following the visit, he noted that land development is currently underway from the highway leading to the hospital area, and two out of three ancillary facilities are nearing completion.

Phase one, funded by the DPWH, involves constructing a multi-purpose building along with a four-storey main hospital building funded by the Department of Health (DOH)-Western Visayas through the city government.

The multi-purpose building features a dietary building, and a morgue, along with a linen and laundry office.

Gasataya said: “They (the contractor) have already put-up walls to start construction of the main hospital. In the next two or three months, probably phase two will also start.”

Set to open in 2024 with 100 beds, the Bacolod City General Hospital is being established through Republic Act 11564 authored by Gasataya and sponsored by Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.

The hospital will be built on a nearly four-hectare lot, which has been donated by the Gensoli family.
