Temple University Health System (Temple Health) has incorporated DrFirst’s artificial intelligence (AI)-backed medication management solutions into its Epic electronic health record (EHR) system.

In addition to supporting patient adherence to medication therapy, DrFirst’s medication history and prescription price transparency solutions help to prevent errors and fill data gaps.

The company’s MedHx with SmartSuite tool leverages AI for automatically filling gaps in patient medication history records.

This helps to create a more accurate medication reconciliation process while relieving the burden on clinicians.

The myBenefitCheck solution helps health care providers at the 900-bed Temple Health University to improve their insight into prescription costs during a doctor’s visit, or at the time of hospital discharge, based on the health insurance of the patients.

It allows physicians to select affordable medicines for patients to drive medication adherence.

Temple Health chief medical information officer David Fleece said: “Complete and accurate medication history, along with real-time prescription benefit information, is critical to our ability to provide the best possible care to our patients.

“Leveraging AI and automated tasks, such as delivering patient data within our EHR workflows, relieve some of the burdens on our clinicians to support informed clinical decision-making at the point of care.”

The health system will also use DrFirst’s advanced data analytics to monitor the adherence to medication history best practices.

DrFirst CEO Cameron Deemer said: “Our clinical-grade AI will help Temple Health providers reduce the time they spend manually entering data for medication reconciliation.

“At a time when many health systems are short-staffed, they need new ways to increase efficiency, reduce staff burnout, and prevent the adverse drug events that could lead to readmissions.”
