Logan Hospital in Queensland, Australia, has opened new birthing suites and a transit care hub as part of a key expansion project.

The Queensland Government invested more than A$1bn ($668.38m) in the project, which aims to bring modern healthcare facilities to the Logan community.

Queensland’s health and ambulance services minister Shannon Fentiman said: “The boost to capacity is just the beginning of one of the state’s largest ever hospital expansion projects, which will deliver 206 additional beds and treatment spaces by the end of next year, and a further 112 beds by 2026.

The launch of the new facilities is part of the hospital’s broader expansion plan, which will deliver additional beds and treatment spaces.

It also includes renovation of the maternity service, a new modular medical ward, and a multi-level car park.

According to Logan member Linus Power, the new services will offer relief to the hospital’s emergency unit, which serves over 100,000 patients annually.

Queensland Treasurer Cameron Dick said: “Looking ahead, design has already begun on the A$530m Logan Hospital Stage 2 Expansion Project, with a managing contractor now appointed and early works set to start in early 2024.

“Stage two will provide even more beds – 112 across four new wards – in a new clinical services building which will also feature new operating theatres, endoscopy and pharmacy departments.”
