Construction has begun on the Cariboo Memorial Hospital project, aimed at improving healthcare access for the Williams Lake community and surrounding areas in British Columbia, Canada.

The project involves the expansion and renovation of the existing facility, including a three-storey addition.

The redevelopment will result in a total of 53 beds, with 25 new beds being added.

It includes a 36-bed medical/surgical inpatient unit, a mental-health and substance-use inpatient unit with eight single-occupancy rooms, and an expanded ambulatory care and oncology unit with 16 upgraded treatment spaces.

Furthermore, the project will feature a new emergency department with 23 treatment spaces, a seclusion room, two bays for trauma treatment, an ambulance carport, and a separate public entrance.

The expansion will also include an enlarged maternity and women’s health unit consisting of four single-occupancy maternity care rooms, two nursery rooms and two women’s health beds in private rooms.
