US-based Universal Health Services (UHS) is expanding the use of Oracle Health’s electronic health record (EHR) system across its network of behavioural health facilities.

UHS has been using Oracle Health’s technology in its acute care hospitals for ten years, and this expansion will allow the organisation to have a unified EHR system across both acute and behavioural health facilities in the US.

Oracle Health executive vice-president Travis Dalton said: “Building on a decade of successful collaboration, this expanded relationship between UHS and Oracle Health takes a significant step toward realising the goal of seamless health information exchange.”

The expanded partnership is expected to improve patient safety and support value-based care by having access to accurate health data.

With more than 200 behavioural health facilities, UHS aims to modernise its technology to provide better care to patients seeking behavioural health services.

The EHR rollout was done in five facilities this year and will continue in the coming years.

By using Oracle Health’s EHR, UHS care teams can securely share information, while promoting collaborative treatment.

Additionally, UHS has customised Oracle’s behavioural health-specific EHR content and functionality to gain a comprehensive view of patients’ records and make more informed care decisions.

The customised content will also be offered to other Oracle customers through Crossings Healthcare Solutions, a UHS subsidiary.

UHS Behavioral Health Division president Matt Peterson stated: “There is a historical lack of health record digitisation in the behavioural health sector. We are leading the charge in modernising our technology and this is an exciting horizon as we further pursue total patient care.”
