Structural works on the new 12-storey clinical services tower of Frankston Hospital in Australia have commenced.

The works are part of the A$1.1bn ($740m) Frankston Hospital redevelopment project that has completed a year of construction.

So far, crews at the construction site have completed over 170,000 combined hours of work with the help of two tower cranes.

The site also received a third tower crane. Furthermore, it has seen the removal of 50,000m3 of soil and pouring of over 410m3 of concrete to support the foundations of the new structure.

Over 670 people, including 45 trainees and apprentices, have been engaged at the site so far.

The new facility will be able to treat around 35,000 more patients annually.

It is also expected to improve healthcare services for communities in Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula by reducing wait periods and minimising pressure on other hospitals in Melbourne.

Frankston Hospital redevelopment will see the construction of a new clinical services tower and main entrance as well as 130 new beds, additional spaces for mental health and oncology services.

It will also include an extended women’s and children’s services along with 15 new operating theatres.

Victorian Health Building Authority, along with Peninsula Health and the Exemplar Health consortium, is responsible for main works on Frankston Hospital.

These works are slated for completion by late 2025.

Victoria premier Daniel Andrews said: “We aren’t wasting a moment getting on with delivering this world-class project for Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula – ensuring local communities can access the best healthcare close to home.”
