Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital has partnered with Acadia Healthcare to launch a new 96-bed behavioural health hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The two healthcare providers are currently in search of land to set up the facility.

Aiming to address the shortage of more than 300 inpatient behavioural health beds in Iowa and Nebraska, the partners plan to spend over $55m in the region’s behavioural health resource expansion.

Construction on the new hospital will start after all regulatory clearances are in place, with opening expected in 2026.

The new facility will include 24 inpatient beds for children and adolescents, along with outpatient services.

It will comprise large treatment rooms for group therapy sessions and centralised nursing stations. The hospital will feature high ceilings and large windows to optimise natural light.
