The Queensland government has officially opened what is claimed to be Australia’s first satellite hospital, with an aim to provide healthcare services to the Caboolture community.
Slated to open on 3 August for patients, the called Caboolture Satellite Hospital includes a minor illness and injury clinic, offering free urgent care options for patients who do not need to visit an emergency department.
The clinic is equipped to treat various conditions, including sprains, strains, simple fractures, head injuries without loss of consciousness, and other urgent conditions.
To remain open from 8am to 10pm local time every day, the clinic features on-site medical imaging.
The satellite hospital offers outpatient and community health services that include oral and mental health services for adults and children.
It houses an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Hub, which offers maternal and infant healthcare, perinatal well-being, diabetes education, and allied health services.

By GlobalDataThe Caboolture Satellite Hospital is part of the Queensland government’s A$377m ($252.52m) Satellite Hospital programme, which aims to deliver seven facilities across the southeast part of the state.
The other satellite hospitals at Bribie Island, Eight Mile Plains, Kallangur, Redlands, Ripley, and Tugun are slated to open later this year and next year.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said: “Rapidly growing communities, like Caboolture, need free healthcare services that keep pace with their needs and through the Satellite Hospitals Program, we are demonstrating again that we are listening and delivering on services that matter to Queenslanders.
“I look forward to the remaining Satellite Hospitals coming online in the next 12 months, to the benefit of Queensland families.”
