Artificial intelligence (AI) platform provider Blackford has partnered with radiology AI solutions company Qure.ai to implement an AI-driven neurocritical solution at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (MKUH).

Called qER, the solution will automate the detection of critical abnormalities in head CT scans, such as intracranial haemorrhages caused by trauma, accidents, or strokes.

According to a statement by the companies, qER will be leveraged for all non-contrast CT scans at the hospital’s emergency unit for triaging critical cases within three minutes, particularly during out-of-hour shifts.

Qure.ai senior vice-president and UK and Europe commercial head Darren Stephens said: “This is a great step forward for frontline A&E patient care and we are delighted to partner with Blackford to bring qER to Milton Keynes University Hospital.

“Our AI solution will help improve patient outcomes by providing timely and accurate detection of critical abnormalities, enabling clinicians to make informed decisions and take appropriate actions.”

The qER tool is said to be one of the first AI applications to be installed through the Blackford Platform at MKUH.
