The top five companies accounted for 12% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Abbott Laboratories filed the most internet of things patents within the healthcare industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 30 internet of things-related patents in the quarter, compared with 49 in the previous quarter. It was followed by DexCom with 25 internet of things patent filings, Samsung Electronics (24 filings), and Baxter International (17 filings) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 44% share of total patent filings
The largest share of internet of things related patent filings in the healthcare industry in Q3 2024 was in the US with 44%, followed by China (8%) and Japan (6%). The share represented by the US was 12% higher than the 33% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
