The East Africa branch of Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) has installed MEDITECH’s Expanse electronic health record (EHR) system at its healthcare facilities in Tanzania and Kenya, as well as all outreach health clinics.
The Expanse system is designed to provide healthcare professionals with access to comprehensive patient records by streamlining medical data management.

This is intended to enable better-informed decisions and personalised treatment plans, improving patient outcomes and the overall quality of healthcare services.
MEDITECH said the EHR platform also improves interoperability and ensures safer care delivery, increased efficiency, data-driven insights and enhanced patient engagement.

AKHS East Africa’s implementation of Expanse comes after the platform was installed at the Aga Khan University’s (AKU) teaching hospital in Nairobi, Kenya.
AKHS, AKU and the Aga Khan Foundation are part of the Aga Khan Development Network, which works to address health challenges in low and middle-income countries and claims to provide healthcare to eight million people a year.
