AI-powered mental health wellness platform Wysa has launched its digital intervention service in orthopaedic hospitals in Missouri, New York, and California, US.

This is aimed at helping musculoskeletal patients who deal with chronic pain, depression, and anxiety.

The move comes after trials and clinical studies have shown the effectiveness of Wysa’s digital intervention.

The affordability and clinical evidence supporting Wysa are said to have led physicians to recommend it as a timely and cost-effective alternative for patients losing Medicaid coverage.

Evidence suggests that this digital intervention can aid in improving orthopaedic recovery by providing holistic support, and addressing mental health concerns that often accompany chronic pain.

Wysa’s orthopaedic digital intervention is now accessible at the Living Well Center of Washington University in St. Louis, the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco.

The cost is reported to be one-tenth of what a traditional therapy session would be.

Some hospitals may further subsidise the cost for patients who cannot afford it.

A study released in JMIR has highlighted the effectiveness of Wysa’s digital intervention for orthopaedic patients, Wysa stated.

It is expected to reduce mental health concerns while leading to improved physical function and reduced pain interference.

Wysa healthcare and clinical development SVP Chaitali Sinha said: “Between the lack of cost-effective and clinically backed mental health support options available to patients, and the loss of Medicaid coverage that could impact 24 million individuals, accessible mental health support is urgently needed.

“We’ve recognised through our trials the incredible promise our orthopaedic digital intervention holds and have been working tirelessly to create broad patient access.

“Our roll out with these leading hospitals helps reach that goal.”
