Ensign Group has expanded its presence in the US with the acquisition of real estate and operations from Champions Healthcare at Willowbrook, Houston, Texas, US.
Champions Healthcare is a post-acute healthcare campus comprising a 98-bed skilled nursing facility along with a 144-bed assisted living facility.
The acquisition of this Texas-based campus’ real estate business was carried out by The Ensign Group through its captive real estate company Standard Bearer Healthcare REIT’s subsidiary.
The latest acquisition has already come into effect from 1 November 2023.
Ensign Texas-based subsidiary Keystone Care president Andy Ashton said: “We are excited to work together with the local healthcare communities and an outstanding team of caregivers as we strive to exceed the needs of each resident and the families we are honoured to serve.”
The Ensign Group, which is the parent of the Ensign group of companies, primarily invests in and provides skilled physical, occupational and speech therapies, nursing and senior living services, real estate, and other rehabilitative and healthcare services.

By GlobalDataWith the addition of Champions Healthcare, Ensign Group has further expanded its existing portfolio to around 297 healthcare operations located across 13 US states, including Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, and South Carolina, among others.
These healthcare operations also include 27 senior living operations.
Together, all the Ensign subsidiaries, including Standard Bearer Healthcare, now own a total of 113 real estate assets.
Ensign CEO Barry Port said: “We are thrilled to grow our presence in Texas with the addition of this healthcare campus, which we have had our eye on for some time.
“This acquisition greatly enhances our existing operations in the Houston market.”
Port confirmed that the company will continue to look for various real estate businesses and opportunities to lease successful and underperforming skilled nursing, senior living and other healthcare-related businesses across the US.
Last month, Ensign Group announced acquiring the operations of a skilled nursing facility, named Providence Place, in Kansas, US.
