US-based healthcare company Ardent Health Services has suffered a ransomware attack that hit its information technology systems on 23 November 2023.
The company took its network offline to address the incident, suspending user access to various applications, including corporate servers, Epic software, the Internet, and clinical programmes.
Ardent has reported the incident to law enforcement and enlisted third-party forensic and threat intelligence advisors. In addition, it has implemented additional security measures in collaboration with cybersecurity partners.
The full extent of breached patient health or financial data is currently unknown. Ardent has already launched a probe into the incident.
Despite temporary disruptions to clinical and financial operations, patient care continues in hospitals, emergency rooms, and clinics.
Some non-emergent, elective procedures are being rescheduled, and certain emergency room patients are being redirected to other hospitals as a precaution.
