MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in the US has unveiled the new Verstandig Pavilion, which is scheduled to open on 10 December 2023.
To support the construction of this new pavilion at the hospital, Red Cell Partners co-founder and CEO Grant Verstandig and Verstandig Family Foundation donated $50m in November 2021.
The grant is said to be the one of the largest in the state’s healthcare history.
Spanning approximately 477,000ft², the pavilion will house a new emergency department, an Intraoperative MRI system (IMRIS) for precise neurosurgery, 156 private inpatient rooms, 31 advanced operating rooms, and a rooftop helipad for quick access in emergencies.
The Medical/Surgical pavilion aims to enhance medical education, clinical research, and specialised services in oncology, gastroenterology, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, and transplants.
MedStar Health president and CEO Kenneth Samet said: “As we built the Pavilion, we had one foot in today, building a facility that reflects the full capabilities of medicine today, and one foot in tomorrow, building a facility with comprehensive flexibilities, so that as medicine continues to evolve, we will be able to meet the healthcare needs of our region for decades to come.
