US-based academic health system Tampa General Hospital (TGH) has concluded an approximately $294m cash deal to acquire the Bravera Health network from subsidiaries of Community Health Systems (CHS).
The purchase is said to be TGH’s largest expansion in recent years.

It has also established TGH North, a division of TGH that integrates community hospitals in Citrus and Hernando Counties with the academic health system.
TGH North encompasses TGH Spring Hill, TGH Brooksville, and TGH Crystal River.
These three facilities were previously the 124-bed Bravera Health Spring Hill, 120-bed Bravera Health Brooksville, and 128-bed Bravera Health Seven Rivers, respectively.
A freestanding ER, two ambulatory surgery centres, as well as ten primary care and speciality care clinics will also be part of the newly formed TGH North.

The latest acquisition will allow residents in Citrus and Hernando counties to get access to a wider network of providers, experts, and specialists, stated TGH.
It expands the health network to six hospitals, over 150 care locations, and around 14,000 team members and providers, serving patients from 23 counties across Florida.
This move is part of TGH’s plan to transform healthcare in Florida, with initiatives such as the AI-based CareComm command centre and TGH at Home to offer hospital-like home-based care and remote monitoring.
TGH North EVP and president Steve Short said: “With the creation of TGH North, we’re investing in this growing, vibrant region.
“The communities in Citrus and Hernando counties can continue to depend on their local hospitals while benefiting from the cutting-edge research conducted at TGH and USF Health, and access to a broader network of providers that offer rare and complex specialised care.”
