Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University (SOA) has opened the second campus of Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) and SUM Hospital in Odisha, India.
SUM Hospital’s new campus is located in Phulnakhara, Bhubaneswar on the national highway (NH)-16, serving as a critical healthcare hub between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
The new campus will offer a range of advanced healthcare facilities and technology to aid treatment for patients, including cancer care.
With a starting capacity of 750 beds, the hospital plans to expand to 3,000 beds within two years, Nanda said.
This location will provide easy access for patients from various parts of the state.
The hospital’s onco care facilities at Phulnakhara campus will feature radiation oncology, nuclear medicine, and advanced diagnostic equipment.

It includes gynaecology, ophthalmology, ENT, neonatology, paediatric oncology, general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics, general medicine, paediatrics, critical care medicine, psychiatry, anaesthesiology, radio-diagnosis, emergency medicine, among others.
Healthcare experts, many of whom have received training overseas or from prestigious medical institutions in India, will offer specialist and super-speciality medical care at the new campus, catering to patients from different socio-economic backgrounds at an affordable cost.
The new campus will also provide essential emergency services around the clock, including various intensive care units (ICU), such as ICCU, PICU, NICU, as well as an exclusive ICU for Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) and Hemato Oncology patients.
Inauguration of the campus, which took place on 21 January, was led by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The event was also attended by Odisha’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Niranjan Pujari, SOA founder president Dr Manojranjan Nayak, and other dignitaries.
“The new hospital will have the objective to become a milestone in state’s healthcare ecosystem,” SOA vice-chancellor Professor Pradipta Kumar Nanda said.
Apart from the Phulnakhara campus, Nanda informed that another SUM Hospital facility is set to open at Sitalapalli in Ganjam district in Odisha by the end of January.
This Sitalapalli facility will feature 350 beds and modern healthcare infrastructure.
