The Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby, England, UK has opened new Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and Integrated Acute Assessment (IAA) units.
The SDEC and IAA units have been developed with an investment of around £4.4m ($5.5m).
Development of these units comes as part of a £65.2m investment aimed at improving urgent and emergency care services in northern Lincolnshire region.
The new units, which are now open, feature a range of modern and well-equipped amenities tailored to meet the community’s healthcare needs.
Positioned adjacent to the hospital’s existing Emergency Department, the SDEC and IAA units are designed to complement each other, with the goal of reducing patient demand and waiting times.
The hospital’s medicine matron Joanne Forward said: “The units will be staffed with senior clinicians from a range of disciplines, so instead of going into the Emergency Department and waiting to be admitted to a ward in order to be seen by these clinicians, you can be referred straight to them by your GP, 111, the ambulance service or our community teams.

As a district general hospital, Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital is equipped with a 24-hour emergency department, advanced diagnostic tools, and a dedicated children and family services building that includes en-suite maternity rooms.
This hospital in Grimsby, Lincolnshire is run by Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLAG).
Last year, the board at NLAG and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust appointed Jonathan Lofthouse appointed as the joint CEO.
Commenting on the opening of the units, group CEO Jonathan Lofthouse said: “Not only do these units look fantastic but, when combined with the new Emergency Departments, these facilities will make a huge difference to our patients.
“There are more examination rooms and side rooms than we currently have available, and we can be flexible in how we use them, so at times of high demand we have additional space available.
“It’s also important to note that they have all been designed and developed with direct input from our clinical teams, so they have been able to shape how these units will be used to support patient care and ensure the facilities give them what they need.”
