US-based healthcare provider Community Health Systems (CHS) has migrated to a new clinical data platform that is expected to help it deploy generative AI with Google Cloud.
The company has centralised its data into a single Cloud platform using the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources 1 (FHIR) based system, which allows healthcare information to be exchanged between computer systems.
CHS said the centralisation has enhanced the interoperability of healthcare information and streamlined clinical and operational metrics across the organisation.
The company expects its migration of data to Google Cloud will expedite its efforts to adopt generative AI technologies.
Generative AI is expected to help clinicians and employees easily interact with data and decode results to track operations in different areas, including surgeries and emergency rooms.
Since migrating to Google Cloud, CHS said it has observed increased data transparency and improvements in quality, outcomes and operations.

By GlobalDataThe company had previously faced challenges with dispersed data in various formats, which made obtaining data a time-consuming and complex task.
Its collaboration with Google Cloud’s health data platform has allowed patient data to be aggregated into secure, standardised FHIR formats, enabling interoperability among clinical systems.
In addition, CHS has been using Google Cloud’s data warehouse solution, BigQuery, to present comprehensive patient data and generate real-time operational insights.
The centralised data repository has allowed CHS to implement Google Cloud’s new gen AI technologies such as Vertex AI, as well as large language models, which are expected to drive administrative efficiencies and enhance patient outcomes.
Community Health Systems Clinical Operations senior vice-president Miguel Benet said: “The goal of this migration extends well beyond modernising our data infrastructure.
“By building a secure foundation to take advantage of new innovations in AI, we’re able to streamline our clinical providers’ workflow and advance way we deliver patient care.”
