US-based health technology company DeepScribe has launched the ‘Real-Time’ feature, providing clinicians with artificial intelligence (AI)-generated clinical notes simultaneously as patient encounters take place.
This new addition to the DeepScribe platform offers healthcare professionals the ability to interact with their Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems live.
Despite the widespread adoption of GPT-4 in various industries, the healthcare sector grapples with issues of latency and high costs in mission-critical applications.
Ambient documentation has made strides in addressing these concerns, yet a common limitation persists: notes generation commences only after patient interactions end, causing delays and hindering broader physician adoption.
DeepScribe’s Real-Time feature leverages a large language model (LLM) dubbed HealAI, which is designed specifically for clinical use and trained on over three million medical conversations.
As against standard offerings that process the note only after the patient visit is complete, HealAI can execute several real-time inferences during patient visits all while maintaining the high note accuracy set by DeepScribe.

By GlobalDataReal-Time offering provides clinicians with benefits including instantaneous notes, real time-based feedback and streamlined handoffs.
With the instant note benefit, the system generates notes without delay as the visit occurs. Subsequently, the doctors can amend or clarify notes instantly while still with the patient.
Furthermore, the feature enhances workflow efficiency, such as enabling physicians to review notes from medical assistants’ patient intakes before entering the examination room.
With the integration of the Real-Time feature into Customization Studio and Trust and Safety Suite of the company, health systems can have rapid, adaptable and secure documentation solution.
DeepScribe COO and co-founder Matthew Ko said: “With Real-Time, we have proven that we can not only capture, but also structure and action live data from the conversation at the point of care.
“Beyond improving the clinical workflow, Real-Time opens the possibility of building an ambient intelligence layer to power the future of medicine.”
The company will showcase the Real-Time feature at the HIMSS 2024 Global Conference, taking place from March 11-15 in Orlando, Florida, US.
The latest development comes after the company unveiled Trust and Safety Suite as a new component of its Ambient AI Technology.
