UCI Health, an academic health system at the University of California, has adopted Abridge’s generative artificial intelligence (AI) powered solution to support clinical documentation.
The AI platform uses Abridge’s proprietary AI pipeline to convert patient-clinician conversations into structured clinical note drafts in real-time.
UCI Health’s use of the platform is expected to help its healthcare professionals by making their operations more efficient.
The system is claimed to reduce the time clinicians spend on administrative tasks by more than two to three hours daily.
Abridge said its AI-driven platform has shown significant efficiency gains in recent implementations, with more than 92% of the notes drafted by the AI platform across nearly 50 specialities needing minimal edits from UCI clinicians.
UCI Health chief innovation officer Scott Joslyn said: “Abridge is already reducing the ‘pyjama time’ that is endemic to clinicians today.

By GlobalData“It’s a powerful AI technology that fits seamlessly into our existing workflows, and is the beginning of what I believe will be a broad transformation using generative AI to simplify the experience and elevate the quality of healthcare.”
Abridge’s solution is designed to increase auditability, enabling clinicians to verify AI-generated summaries with ground-truth evidence quickly.
The technology has also been adopted by Emory Healthcare, UPMC, Yale New Haven Health System and The University of Kansas Health System among other health systems.
Abridge founder and CEO Dr Shiv Rao said: “We are thrilled to work with UCI Health, an institution with a deep history of innovation and leadership in healthcare.
“Our deployment at UCI Health helps demonstrates the value of Abridge across a wide range of specialities, care settings and languages.
“For example, we are already seeing initial use by integrative medicine clinicians who are saving up to 40 minutes for each patient.”
Last month, Abridge raised $150m in a Series C financing round to expedite its research and development activities.
