The Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust in the UK has selected Laing O’Rourke, a global engineering and construction company, for clinical building work at Calderdale Royal Hospital.
As the preferred partner, Laing O’Rourke will help in progressing the design stage of the new four-storey clinical building.
The development project will involve delivering a new adult and children’s accident and emergency (A&E) department, complete with resuscitation bays and assessment rooms, as well as ten new inpatient wards.
Laing O’Rourke Group chief operating officer Cathal O’Rourke said: “We will use our blueprint for hospitals, which involves working with the Trust, its patient groups, and the wider project team, to influence design and deliver a programme of work that embeds modern, sustainable methods of construction that will ensure the highest quality, safer working environments, and programme accuracy.
“This project will also enhance the local area as we’ll be able to engage with schools and businesses to provide working opportunities and education.”
The associated enabling works for the project are scheduled to commence at the end of this year.

By GlobalDataThe completion of the new clinical building is anticipated by the end of 2029.
The Calderdale Royal Hospital currently offers a comprehensive range of services, including general medicine, gastrointestinal and liver services, dementia services, breast cancer services, pain management, maternity services, and paediatric surgery.
According to Laing O’Rourke, it was selected for the latest Calderdale Royal Hospital project based on its proven track record in constructing modern hospitals for various NHS trusts.
The company said its expertise in delivering high-quality, sustainable healthcare facilities and its commitment to social value were key factors in its appointment.
In September 2023, Laing O’Rourke was appointed as the preferred partner for constructing a new hospital in Scotland to replace University Hospital Monklands.
