Larsen & Toubro Construction’s (L&T) has announced that its Health Business Unit has secured a contract to construct a new medical hospital campus in Kolkata, India for the Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata.
The company has not disclosed the financial details and other terms of this contract, however, the company has categorised this order as “significant”, which is valued in the range of Rs10bn to Rs25bn ($119.9m to $299.7m).
As part of the contract, the Indian construction company’s Health Business Unit will be responsible for developing a new Medical College and Hospital Campus at Rajarhat, Kolkata.
The project will include a 605-bed hospital and a medical college with an annual intake capacity of 150 students.
It will be developed on a “Design & Build” mode and is set to span a total built-up area of 1.21 million feet square.
The associated construction work will be executed in two phases over the next 60-month period.

By GlobalDataL&T said that the scope of work includes civil structure, finishes, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP), external development works, such as landscaping, as well as paramedical work.
According to media release by L&T, the latest contract forms a part of the multiple orders secured by Buildings & Factories (B&F) business.
Apart from the Health Business Unit contract, B&F division has also been awarded with several other add-on orders.
The new campus at Rajarhat will not only feature the hospital and medical college but also hostels for students, nurses, interns, and residents of the institute.
The Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata, a non-profit healthcare provider, which aims to offer affordable neurosurgery and related treatments in Eastern India.
It was founded by Dr R P Sengupta to address the need for specialised neurological treatment and rehabilitation, particularly for children in the Indian region.
The institute currently operates a 210-bed facility in Kolkata, which provides a range of services including neurology, neurosurgery, neuro-anesthesia, neurorehabilitation, neuroradiology, and neuropsychiatry for both adults and children.
