The Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) has partnered with the University of Toronto in Canada, joining its network of academic healthcare organisations.
This four-year agreement, lasting until 2028, aligns with GBGH’s dedication in the training of future medical professionals.
GBGH is now part of a group of 24 hospitals affiliated with the University of Toronto.
This partnership is expected to bring numerous benefits, including the potential for increased recruitment and retention of medical staff and healthcare professionals who have completed clinical placements at the hospital and nearby clinics.
GBGH president and CEO Matthew Lawson said: “GBGH values opportunities to improve the care our hospital provides, such as this affiliation with the University of Toronto.
“With access to a larger network of resources, information and expertise, we expect this partnership will certainly have a positive impact on both patient care and our highly skilled team.”

Moreover, the agreement opens doors for healthcare providers to engage in research and scholarship.
The University of Toronto has a history of providing clinical training through its network of academic teaching hospitals in the Toronto area, which are integral to educating a wide range of healthcare professionals.
Ontario Minister of Colleges and Universities Jill Dunlop said: “With this new partnership, Ontario’s future doctors can look forward to more high-quality, hands-on learning opportunities while improving access to much-needed care for communities in Georgian Bay.
“By expanding medical education, our government is helping more students become doctors to serve the people of Ontario, whenever and wherever they need it.”
