Carle Health is set to rollout Nabla’s ambient artificial intelligence (AI) assistant to its multi-specialty physician group practice and emergency departments, following a successful four-week pilot programme.

The AI assistant will be integrated with Carle Health’s existing electronic health record (EHR) system, Epic, to enhance clinical documentation processes.

This move aims to save clinicians significant time on administrative tasks, with more than 50% of clinicians saying at least one hour saved per day during the pilot.

The integration will enable Carle Health’s 1,500 providers to access Nabla’s features directly within Epic, using either desktop or mobile devices.

This seamless interaction is designed to reduce the need for clinicians to switch between systems, thereby optimising their workflow.

Featuring capabilities, including telehealth integration and multi-speaker functionality, the AI assistant can suggest updates to the patient’s problem list.

Carle Health associate chief medical officer and chief informatics officer Dr David Lovinger said: “Nabla fits seamlessly into our workflows, and thanks to the onboarding support and training we received throughout the pilot program, we started seeing results immediately.

“Nabla enhanced the patient experience at our pilot sites by giving our providers more face time with their patients, knowing that it was doing the heavy lifting for charting. We look forward to rolling Nabla out to additional practice groups and feel confident in the results we’ll continue to achieve.”

Carle Health’s adoption of Nabla’s ambient AI assistant is part of a larger trend among health systems seeking to leverage technology to improve patient care and operational efficiency.

Nabla co-founder and CEO Alex LeBrun said: “Our joint efforts to implement this Epic-integrated roll-out ensures clinicians at Carle Health can experience the full value of Nabla.”

In April 2024, Greenway Health and Nabla teamed up to launch a new clinical documentation tool.
