The new six-level, 96-bed facility is set to replace the existing hospital. It will offer personalised care to enhance patient experiences while providing hospital staff with tools to treat more patients and connect patients, leveraging data to drive scalable solutions.

It features spacious inpatient rooms, dedicated suites for new mothers, and imaging equipment.

Mayo Clinic Health System said its latest hospital in La Crosse stands as the organisation’s largest construction project to date.

It encompasses a range of units including medical-surgical, intensive care, and cardiac care, alongside a family birth centre and a special care nursery.

In addition to the medical facilities, the hospital is equipped with digital door displays linked to electronic health records, providing staff with up-to-date patient information.

The surgical and procedural floor is connected to existing operating rooms, with spaces for pre-surgery and post-surgery recovery.

The design of the La Crosse hospital prioritises flexibility, supporting the collaborative efforts of care teams and the integration of in-person and digital healthcare services.

The adaptable spaces within the hospital are prepared to evolve in response to the changing needs of patients.

Mayo Clinic president and CEO Gianrico Farrugia said: “The new hospital, together with the recently opened tower in Mankato, Minnesota, stands as a testament to a new kind of community healthcare and as a blueprint for the transformation of medical infrastructure.”

The health system highlighted that sustainability has been a cornerstone in the development of the new hospital.

Architects incorporated green building solutions, including LED lighting, an energy-efficient exterior, individual cooling systems, and finishes made from recycled materials.

Notably, the hospital has implemented a geothermal heating and cooling system that utilises groundwater for temperature regulation, making it 24% more energy efficient and producing 42% fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional systems.

Mayo Clinic Health System president Prathibha Varkey said: “Forward-looking facilities that exemplify Mayo Clinic values close to home are a key part of our Mayo Clinic Health System Bold. Forward. 2030 strategy.”
