The New South Wales (NSW) Government in Australia has revealed concept designs for the A$263.8m ($179.2m) redevelopment of Grafton Base Hospital and is inviting community to learn more about this at various information sessions next month.

The project is aimed at enhancing healthcare services in Grafton and nearby communities.

As part of the redevelopment works, a new three-storey building with advanced facilities, including a modern emergency department, emergency short stay, medical imaging and MRI, and inpatient unit will be constructed.

Furthermore, an expanded day surgery and operating suite will be set up to provide two more operating theatres, enhancing the overall capacity.

The planned redevelopment is a response to the increasing healthcare demands of the region, the government noted.

Additionally, the project includes refurbishments to support service areas and the potential for maternity services to be relocated to the new building.

The government also noted that they have identified zones for future development, allowing for further enhancements down the line.

The timeline for construction will be determined following the finalisation of planning and the engagement of a builder.

An invitation has been extended by the government to the local community to engage with the project team during information sessions at Grafton Shoppingworld.

These sessions are scheduled for 11 September from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 12 September from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

NSW Regional Health Minister Ryan Park said: “We are excited to share more about this important project with the Grafton community, at the upcoming information sessions.”

“The Grafton Base Hospital Redevelopment will deliver modern treatment spaces to support contemporary models of care and improve capacity.”

“Planning for the redevelopment has been carried out in close consultation with clinical staff, ensuring a strong focus on delivering on identified clinical priorities.”

Recently, the government released the concept design for the new A$558m ($375m) Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital project.
