Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) Government has appointed Taylor Construction as the preferred building contractor for the development of the Blayney multi-purpose service (MPS) redevelopment project.

The latest milestone will lay the foundation for the commencement of construction work on the upgrade project, which aims to bolster the existing healthcare services in the region.

According to the government, Taylor Construction has been awarded the contract after the successful completion of a competitive tendering process.

Taylor’s recent projects include the Campbelltown Hospital Redevelopment, Bathurst Hospital MRI Imaging Department Extension, and Freshwater Mental Health Unit within Long Bay correctional facility.

The redevelopment project is a key component of the NSW government’s A$297m ($199.7m) MPS programme, aimed at improving health facilities in rural and remote areas.

It will introduce a new facility at the current Osman Street location, which is being designed to offer additional inpatient beds, expanded chair-based services, and room for future growth.

Other key highlights of the MPS include expanded ambulatory care treatment chairs, enhanced outdoor spaces and courtyards, increased HealthOne rooms, and the introduction of one main entry to replace the current three entries.

The service will also include a new residential aged care wing, with each wing featuring single rooms and bathrooms.

NSW government highlighted that the contractor is now planning to engage with the local community, including businesses, tradespeople, and suppliers, to explore opportunities for involvement in the project’s construction process.

Taylor Construction has also been engaging with the Western NSW Local Health District, Health Infrastructure, Blayney MPS residents, staff, and families to finalise the redevelopment project’s design.

NSW will now establish a construction timeline as planning for the build advances.

NSW Regional Health Minister Ryan Park said: “The appointment of the building contractor is a significant milestone in the delivery of this project, which will ensure the Blayney community has access to improved health facilities, now and into the future.

“This new facility will have more treatment spaces, a residential aged care wing with single rooms and scope to expand in the future to meet the needs of the Blayney community.”
