India’s National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) has announced that its subsidiary Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation (HSCC) has secured a new contract for the construction of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Darbhanga in the Indian state of Bihar.

The estimated value of this contract, which has been awarded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, is approximately Rs12.61bn ($150.68m), NBCC stated it in a stock exchange filing.

According to a Business Standard report, this budget for the AIIMS Darbhanga project was approved by the Union Cabinet earlier this month and the entire project will be funded by the central government.

AIIMS Darbhanga, which is being developed on 182 acres of land, will feature a hospital, a residential complex, various other allied facilities, and services, along with a dedicated teaching block mainly for medical as well as nursing courses.

Business Standard cited Indian Union Health Minister JP Nadda’s recent press conference where he highlighted: “The issue of allotment of land for AIIMS Darbhanga, which was pending for over three years, has been finally settled.”

Out of the total 182 acres of land, the Bihar government has handed over approximately 150.13 acres of land for the project, as of August 2024.
