Fisk Electric Company, a subsidiary of Tutor Perini, has secured the first phase of a significant electrical contract from McCarthy Building Companies for a new Harris Health hospital in Houston, Texas, US.

The initial phase, valued at approximately $29m, is part of a guaranteed maximum price contract, currently estimated at nearly $147m.

The new Harris Health hospital is located on the Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital campus.

Owned by Harris Health, the project will see Fisk Electric handling the core, shell, and tenant finish-out electrical and fire alarm components for the new hospital tower and podium.

Construction is set to commence in the fourth quarter of 2024, with the goal of substantially completing the entire electrical contract by the fourth quarter of 2028.

The upcoming 12-storey hospital is set to become the third Level I trauma centre in Harris County and is expected to open its doors in late 2028.

Spanning approximately 1.3 million square feet, the facility will house 390 private rooms and have the capacity to expand by an additional 60 rooms.

The hospital’s advanced features include a rooftop helipad, a hybrid operating room, and 15 dedicated operating rooms, making it equipped to handle a broad range of medical services.

The $29m portion of the contract has been added to the company’s backlog as of the third quarter of 2024, with subsequent phases to be included as they are awarded.

This development is a significant addition to Harris Health’s extensive network, which includes the Ben Taub Hospital and Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, alongside a comprehensive system of 37 clinics and health centres, telemedicine services, and speciality locations.
