The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) in Canada has given a contract to Pomerleau Healthcare Partners for designing, building and financing a new hospital campus in Moosonee.

The contract is part of the WAHA Redevelopment Project, which aims to enhance primary healthcare services in Moosonee, Moose Factory Island and the James Bay Coast region of Ontario.

Scheduled to be completed by 2030, the new regional health campus will expand WAHA’s health promotion and capacity-building programmes.

The facility will also focus on improving primary healthcare services and provide better access for Indigenous communities along the James Bay and Hudson Bay coasts.

The campus will feature an acute care hospital, a larger 24-hour emergency department, a 32-bed Elder Care Lodge, ‘state-of-the-art’ suites, expanded mental health and addictions programming, residences for staff, and a hostel for patients and visitors.

Weeneebayko Area Health Authority president and CEO Lynne Innes said: “We are all committed to creating the most state-of-the-art regional healthcare campus possible and we are excited to reach this milestone in our redevelopment project.
