Health Commons Project (HCP), a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving equitable access to health and social care, has announced the strategic acquisition of OneHealthPort, Washington State’s Health Information Exchange (HIE) and health data solutions provider.

This move is set to enhance data interoperability, care coordination, and public health across Washington.

The acquisition positions HCP to support a wide range of providers, including fire departments, schools, rural pharmacies, community-based organisations, health systems, and public health agencies.

These providers will gain real-time, secure access to de-identified patient data, enabling them to respond to crises and monitor population health trends more effectively.

Integrating OneHealthPort into HCP’s portfolio will connect health and social care providers across the state, ensuring critical patient data is available when and where needed.

The combined resources aim to streamline patient transitions between care settings, improve outcomes, and reduce unnecessary costs.

Additionally, HCP will offer new ways for providers with limited IT resources to access essential health data and reports.

HCP executive director Rob Arnold said: “This acquisition represents a significant milestone in our mission to transform health and social care for the better.

“By bringing Washington’s HIE into our nonprofit network, we can empower more health and social care providers, public health agencies, and communities with the tools they need to deliver better, more connected care. We are excited to expand our capabilities to improve healthcare outcomes for all.”

More than 35,000 healthcare entities and 150,000 individuals currently use OneHealthPort.

With this acquisition, stakeholders will continue to benefit from the services they rely on while gaining access to HCP’s expanded suite of health and social care solutions.

HCP also plans to introduce new features and tools to enhance the HIE platform’s functionality and accessibility.

OneHealthPort Operations executive vice-president Kerry Tye said: “As part of the Health Commons Project, we will be able to build on our strong foundation and offer even greater value to our partners and the healthcare community.

“Our shared mission of using health data to improve patient outcomes will be more achievable than ever.”

OneHealthPort is slated to officially become HCP OneHealthPort on 1 January 2025.
