The Ontario Government has announced an investment of up to C$95.5m ($67.16m) for the construction of a new Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.
This initiative aims to provide the Collingwood and South Georgian Bay communities with more accessible and quality healthcare services closer to home.
Health Minister and Deputy Premier Sylvia Jones said: “Our government is making historic investments in Ontario’s hospitals to ensure people of all ages can access the care they need, where and when they need it.”
The latest investment supplements the more than C$15.5m previously allocated by the Ontario Government for the initial planning stages of the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital redevelopment.
The new facility’s design will accommodate a larger space to broaden services and cater to the growing needs of the community for years to come.
Simcoe and Grey Member of Provincial Parliament Brian Saunderson said: “Delivering world-class health care to all Ontarians across our great province is a top priority for our government.

By GlobalData“This historic investment in the community of Collingwood and South Georgian Bay will make a much-needed, state-of-the-art hospital a reality that will transform health care for generations of families, from the birth of a child to palliative care and everything in between.”
Upon completion, the new hospital will feature an increased capacity of up to 132 beds, which includes 98 inpatient beds and an additional 34 beds for future community requirements.
It will also incorporate enhanced infection prevention and control measures to safeguard patient health and safety and offer expanded access to essential services, such as emergency, intensive care, diagnostic imaging, and operating suites.
The ministry is set to collaborate with Collingwood General and Marine Hospital to finalise the detailed planning and design of the project.
A construction timeline will be established following the completion of future planning, with the project moving forward once it is tendered and awarded.
