The Cedars-Sinai medical centre in Los Angeles, US, has announced an expansion of its emergency department (ED), supported by a $9m gift from Todd Morgan and the Morgan family.

This contribution is pivotal in advancing the development and expansion efforts of the department, which is a critical component of the medical centre’s commitment to improving patient care and community service.

Todd Morgan is a lifetime member of the board of trustees of Cedars-Sinai.

Morgan said: “My entire family and I understand the escalating need for adequate resources to meet demand in the emergency department.

“We want to aid in that effort and hope that this gift speaks to our dedication to doing our part for the Cedars-Sinai community.”

The donation has led to the naming of The Todd M Morgan Family Lobby, an area where patients wait for treatment.

Cedars-Sinai’s emergency medicine co-chair Sam Torbati said: “The Morgan family’s vision and responsiveness to the needs of our Los Angeles communities is unwavering.

“They have an acute awareness of the provisions required for those depending on our ED for timely, compassionate and lifesaving care.”

Set for completion by late 2026, the expansion will add approximately 16,550ft² to the ED and include the establishment of 40 more care rooms.

The new facilities will feature a critical care suite with six rooms for critically ill patients, a dedicated room for critically ill children, and a behavioural care unit to address mental health needs.

Cedars-Sinai chief advancement officer Arthur Ochoa said: “When people walk through the emergency department doors, The Todd M Morgan Family Lobby is their first stop before seeing a physician for critical care.

“The Morgan family’s incredible gift helps ensure that patients will be as comfortable as possible as they await much-needed care. They will certainly feel the impact and influence of the Morgans’ selfless contribution.”
