The Ministry of Long-Term Care in Ontario, Canada has appointed local hospitals for temporary management of two long-term care homes over 90 days, which may be extended based on requirement.
Southlake Regional Health Centre has been ordered to manage River Glen Haven Nursing Home in Sutton while Humber River Hospital will temporarily manage Downsview Long Term Care in North York.
The appointments come as these homes have been unable to control the Covid-19 spread even with hospital support for weeks. The government expects that the hospitals will help contain the disease and restore normal operations at these homes.
Southlake Regional Health Centre president and CEO Arden Krystal said: “The opportunity to partner with our colleagues in the long-term care sector is a prime example of the benefit of increased collaboration between local healthcare organisations.
“We are committed to working collaboratively with the residents, staff and families at River Glen Haven during this difficult time.”
Hospitals will deploy Infection Prevention and Control teams to care homes, while aiding continued staff and resident testing.
